Who We Are

Benue State, located in North-Central Nigeria, boasts a rich cultural heritage and diverse geography. Established in 1976, the state spans 34,059 square kilometers and is home to 23 local government areas, divided into three senatorial zones. With a population of 6,141,300 as of the 2022 census, Benue State is inhabited by indigenous tribes such as the Tiv, Idoma, Igede, Etulo and Nyifon as well as settlers from various ethnic groups including the Jukun, Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba. Farming is the primary occupation of the state's inhabitants, while petty trading and small-scale businesses also thrive. Despite its potential, Benue State faces developmental challenges, with limited government industries, health centers, schools, and social amenities, leaving the majority of the population self-employed or engaged in small-scale entrepreneurship.

The state's geographical location, lying between latitude 6.50 and 8.50 north and longitude 7.470 N and 10 East, presents opportunities for agricultural growth and economic development. However, the state's infrastructure and social services require significant investment to unlock its full potential.

Benue State is also richly endowed with mineral resources, including coal, limestone, baryte, kaolin/kaolinitic clay, gypsum, gemstones, lead/zinc, iron-ore, salt, marble, clay, granite, tin, and lithium. The exploitation of these resources presents a significant opportunity for economic growth and development, and could serve as a catalyst for transforming the state's economy. With a strong focus on community development and economic empowerment, Benue State is poised for growth and transformation.

Sadly, Benue State has been plagued by violence and insecurity. The devastating effects of Fulani herdsmen attacks, militia activities, and banditry have left a trail of bloodshed, displacement, and trauma. The resulting humanitarian crisis has led to the establishment of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, where thousands of people are struggling to survive in the land.
